Steve Smith introduced his retirement from one-day worldwide cricket on Wednesday after Australia’s Champions Trophy semi-final exit to India.

Two-time World Cup winner Smith captained Australia to defeat on Tuesday, high scoring with 73 in a four-wicket defeat to India in Dubai, because the 35-year-old then confirmed his departure from the format.

The 35-year-old confirmed he’ll stay eligible for Exams and Twenty20 internationals.

“I thought our bowlers did a really good job, they worked hard throughout.

“They weren’t the easiest batting conditions, which is probably why the scores were what they were. Having said that, I thought we could have put a few more runs on the board.

“We misplaced wickets at essential instances. If we had obtained 280-plus, issues may have been totally different.”
