Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur says components of the Italian media’s reporting “hurts” his staff and is a contributing think about stopping them from profitable championships.
Following a vastly disappointing begin to a 2025 marketing campaign through which Ferrari had been anticipated to contend for titles after signing Lewis Hamilton to companion Charles Leclerc, studies in Italy earlier this week claimed that Vasseur’s place was below menace.
Requested in regards to the hypothesis on Friday on the Canadian Grand Prix, Vasseur mentioned he was ready to deal with the state of affairs however urged “disrespectful” and “very harsh” hypothesis over others working below him at Ferrari was destabilising the staff.
Vasseur mentioned: “It’s some of the Italian media, not all of the Italian media. It’s not about myself because this I can manage, it’s more the people of the team. To use their name like this is disrespectful to them and their family.
“I do not perceive the goal. Maybe it is to present **** to the staff. On this case, I do not see the purpose. Maybe for them (publications) it is the one solution to exist. That is most likely extra the rationale.
“But it surely nonetheless hurts the staff. At one stage it is a lack of focus. While you’re combating for the championship, each single element makes a distinction.
“From the start of the weekend now we have simply been talking about this. If it is their goal to place the staff on this state of affairs, they’ve reached their aim.
“It is not like this that we are able to win a championship, at the least not with this sort of journalist round us.
“To be the team principal, I knew when I took the position that you are exposed. This is quite easy to manage. It’s more for the people of the team. They are working very hard.
“To determine someday ‘this one will likely be changed, this one is ineffective’. Truthfully, it is very harsh. These journalists want to think about these folks have household. That is fully disrespectful.”
‘We did not do a superb job’
Ferrari have largely been on an upward trajectory since Vasseur took over from Mattia Binotto at the beginning of 2023, with the Italian lacking out to McLaren on final season’s constructors’ title by simply 14 factors.
A powerful finish to 2024, together with the blockbuster signing of seven-time world champion Hamilton to companion Leclerc, raised hopes of a primary constructors’ triumph since 2008, or a primary drivers’ title since Kimi Raikkonen’s 2007 victory.
As an alternative, Ferrari have but to win a grand prix this season, whereas Leclerc has claimed their three podium finishes, leaving the staff scrapping for second place with Mercedes and Pink Bull.
Vasseur mentioned: “The initial goal was to fight for the championship. But I think it’s true for us, Mercedes, Red Bull and McLaren, we are all in this mood to fight for the championship at the beginning of the season.
“Should you evaluate with expectation for that, McLaren is one step nice in comparison with all people and we did not do a superb job on our aspect within the first couple of races.”
Along with suggestions Vasseur is under pressure, reports from Italy also claimed that Leclerc is considering his future as the Monegasque pursues a maiden title.
Vasseur said: “Charles has a long-term contract with us. Each single interview from the start of the season, he is saying that he desires to stick with Ferrari, he desires to win with Ferrari, his future is with Ferrari.
“However each single Monday, now we have an article saying ‘Charles will go subsequent 12 months’.
“At one stage, I don’t know what we have to do. I’m sorry, and I can’t repeat it every single weekend, the same things. It is what is is.
“Now with the with Lewis and Charles, I believe now we have a superb relationship altogether. We now have a transparent goal. We all know that now we have to work and we all know that now we have to push.
“The mood in the team is very good. It’s the basic if you want to recover and to win. But everything is there. Everything is on the table to a good job and altogether we are working well.”
