Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi had an impressive opening at the box office on the first day of the release. The Bollywood film earned $3.5 million (Rs 26.29) crore at the Indian box office while it made a collection of $4.6 million (Rs 8.1 crore) worldwide.
Starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role, Sooryavanshi is the first major Hindi film to go for a wide theatrical release post the shutdown of theatres following the outbreak of the pandemic last year. Earlier this year, Kumar’s BellBottom also released in theatres.
Directed by Rohit Shetty, Sooryavanshi is the fourth film in his “cop universe” which began in 2011 with Ajay Devgn’s Singham. It was followed by Singham Returns in 2014 and Ranveer Singh-starrer Simmba in 2018.
Featuring Katrina Kaif alongside Kumar, Sooryavanshi released across 1300 screens outside India across 66 countries. In India, the film released across 3519 screens on November 5.
In North America, Sooryavanshi released across 520 screens. It will be shown on 137 screens in the UAE and 29 screens in France. The film is being shown across 107 screens in Australia, 36 screens in Germany, 19 screens in Italy and 20 screens in Spain. The film also released in Israel, Japan, Chile, Egypt, Iraq and Djibouti.
Talking about the worldwide release, director-producer Shetty, says, “I have waited for a long time to release Sooryavanshi on the big screens and it’s heartening to get such a wide release across the world. I hope and pray that the audience will enjoy watching it in the cinemas with family and friends this festive season.”
