One of the most notable nights in television will be the center of a new NYT documentary.

According to Deadline, The New York Times NYT announced on Monday that they will be partnering with FX and Hulu yet again for the latest entry in their documentary series. This time, The New York Times will focus on the scandal surrounding Janet Jackson and her infamous 2004 Halftime Show.

The latest New York Times Presents documentary titled, Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson is set to release on November 19th on both Hulu and FX. The film is directed and produced by Jodi Gomes, who has previously directed A+E’s The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty.

The project is set to tell the story of the wardrobe malfunction that happened during Janet’s performance after Justin Timberlake joined the singer for a surprise duet of “Rock Your Body”, ending with Timberlake tearing a part of Janet’s costume, exposing her breast to over 140 million viewers. The incident lead to Jackson being blacklisted in the music industry and her music banned from MTV, VH1, and all radio affiliates despite a public apology issued shortly after. These actions, which many of Jackson’s fans have deemed unfair, were never taken against Timberlake.

Deadline states that the documentary will also “examine the racial and cultural currents that collided on the Super Bowl stage, and explores how the incident impacted one of the most successful pop musicians in history.”

The documentary will feature rare footage and exclusive interviews with several people connected to the performance — some including NFL and MTV executives — to reconstruct the narrative of the incident and examine its role in shaping popular culture decades later. Additionally, the film will include interviews with members of the Jackson family.

Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson comes after the Emmy-nominated Framing Britney Spears documentary and Controlling Britney Spears follow-up, which explored the nature of Spears’s conservatorship and the yearslong court battle over her estate.
