RANCHO PALOS VERDES, California (Reuters) -Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump pledged on Friday to conduct mass deportations of Haitian immigrants from the Ohio metropolis of Springfield, despite the fact that nearly all of them are in the US legally.

The town for days has discovered itself on the middle of a social media maelstrom after right-wing agitators latched onto false claims that Haitian arrivals had been consuming family pets.

“We will do large deportations in Springfield, Ohio,” Trump stated at a press convention at his golf resort close to Los Angeles.
