Lots of good news for fans of The Witcher, the massive Netflix hit that first aired in December of 2019. The second season lands on December 17th, 2021—fully two years after the first season’s debut, and a nice little Christmas present for those of us who loved the show to pieces.
I rather liked The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, but it was still just an anime spinoff, not on the same scale as the main series. Meanwhile the other spinoff, The Witcher: Blood Origin, isn’t coming out any time soon. Netflix has also confirmed that The Witcher will return for a third season, which is great news.
In any case, other than the renewal announcement (which is hardly a surprise even if Netflix is cancel-happy these days) we also have three brand new trailers for the second season of the show. The first two give us a glimpse at specific scenes in the upcoming season while the third intersperses scenes from the second season with scenes from the first in a more traditional trailer format.
Nivellen
In the first trailer we get a glimpse at Nivellen, another cursed man similar to Duny, Ciri’s father who Geralt helps protect from her grandmother. Nivellen has boar-like features but we know he’s not a monster since he can touch silver knives—knife-throwing being at the core of this scene:

Geralt & Ciri
This next clip is perhaps the first time Ciri sees Geralt take a potion and get all freaky looking with those black-hole eyes. There’s some sort of monster in the house they’re staying in and he tells her to flee while he takes care of business. She looks properly, and understandably, frightened by his transformation. (I believe this is the Cat potion that he’s quaffed down, which grants Witchers night vision).
Road To Season 2 / Vesemir
In the final (and longest) trailer we get our first real look at Geralt’s teacher, Vesemir. Vesemir was the star of Nightmare of the Wolf, but he’s quite different in the main show. Older and with a very different accent, for one thing, given that he’s played by Kim Bodnia of Killing Eve fame. Lots of juicy tidbits in this trailer, though lots of Season 1 stuff as well so pay close attention. We also get some glimpses of Yennefer, the cripple-turned-beauty sorceress and Geralt’s erstwhile lover.
Blood Origin First Look
As a little bonus, Netflix released a first look at The Witcher: Blood Origin, though not any footage from the upcoming prequel show. You can watch that below:
