Blind conducted a survey to gain the “pulse” of how people feel about their jobs and business leadership, exclusively for the Happy at Work podcast and Forbes readers.

According to Rick Chen, the company’s director of public relations, “Many companies employ employee engagement surveys, but they are unpopular among workers. Professionals often feel like their responses go into a black hole. Leadership and HR teams typically do not share insights from the survey, and it is unclear if they take any action from the feedback.”

Chen said, “Blind’s mission is to bring transparency to the workplace. We created Pulse so that professionals can understand any company’s culture and access verified employee sentiment in real-time.”

To determine top-ranked companies, Blind looked for six factors: high employee engagement, trust in leadership, career development opportunities, positive work-life balance, respect for diversity and inclusion and compensation.

The Big Picture

With Blind’s real-time data, you can increasingly see how current events and developing news influence professional views on what constitutes a top company.

“NVIDIA recently soared to become the No. 1 rated company after focusing on more advanced computing and the metaverse. Top talent are attracted to companies where they can innovate and make an immense impact at scale,” said Chen.

Similarly, more than four out of five Facebook employees believe the company’s pivot to the metaverse is a smart business decision and stand behind Facebook’s leadership.

Other companies have also been beneficiaries of the current macroeconomic trends.

Indeed, based in Austin, Texas, may be reaping the benefits from the remote-work trend, as well as the burgeoning Texas economy. Workers have become increasingly interested in working for the organization, which has helped Indeed earn the spot of a top company.

Additionally, more job seekers are making important career decisions and pivots based on their values system.

“As recently as last year, some of the top-rated companies were gig or sharing economy companies. They once attracted top talent with their generous total compensation and opportunities for career growth, but have recently faced hiring crises, as some workers perceive they do not act for the common good.”

The results clearly show that workers desire a holistic experience at their place of employment. Compensation is great, but there is more to the picture. People want to be engaged, have trust and faith in leadership, the opportunity to grow and develop, enjoy a positive work-life balance and have diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

*Every participant is a verified professional at that company. Each statement is rated on a five-point scale from strongly disagree to strongly agree. The third option is “neutral.”

Blind ranked companies in each category (and overall) by assigning points to each response on the five-point scale. For example, 20 for strongly disagree and 100 for strongly agree. For example, a score of 85 means a majority of employees answered “strongly agree” with more answering “agree.” The trends (up, steady or down) are based on how responses have changed in the last 30 days.
