‘Squid Game’ Picks Up Four SAG Awards Nominations

The 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards announced its nominations today to honor the year’s best television performances, with the Korean drama series Squid Game receiving four nominations.

Actor Lee Jung-jae received a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series. Model and actress Jung Ho-yeon received a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series.

The cast, which included Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-jun, Oh Young-soo, Anupam Tripathi and Heo Sung-tae, received a nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. The drama also received a nomination for Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Comedy or Drama Series.

The story follows a group of debt-ridden individuals so desperate to change their lives that they are willing to play a series of potentially fatal games for a chance to win a prize of 45.6 million won.

Squid Game was released worldwide on September 17, 2021 and by November 2021 was the most-watched Netflix NFLX series in the history of the streaming platform, becoming the top-viewed program in 94 countries. A second and third season are being planned.

Actor Oh Young-soo recently won a Golden Globe award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in this drama.

 The 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony will take place on February 27.
