Steve Clarke is warming to the thought of staying on as Scotland head coach – if he has the choice.
The 62-year-old feels the ball is within the court docket of the Scottish Soccer Affiliation and revealed he has solely had preliminary, casual talks with chief government Ian Maxwell.
Clarke, who took over in Could 2019 and has led Scotland to a few tournaments out of 4, is out of contract after the World Cup this summer time – and has floated the thought of a return to membership administration too.
“I’ve had a very brief conversation with Ian [Maxwell] about what they want to do moving forward, but from the last time we spoke, nothing concrete to say this is happening or that’s happening,” he stated.
“I am actually comfy about that. Clearly, it’s essential give it some thought.
“Listen, we had an open conversation, I think I said it a way back, 25 [per cent chance I stay] – 75 [per cent chance I leave]. [I would] probably go 50-50 now.
“I’m waiting on the Scottish FA now to come to me and say, look, this is what we see as the future and, if I’m part of that, then we can have that discussion.”
The previous West Brom, Studying and Kilmarnock supervisor added: “I’ve certified for 3 tournaments out of 4. I believe that is a fairly respectable document. Clearly, I might wish to do some bit higher in a event this summer time, however that is one thing that we are able to tackle after we get on the market.
“The Scottish FA have gotten to assume somewhat bit about what’s subsequent for them. Do they assume that I am the man that may go ahead and progress the squad into the following event and hopefully set us up for an additional World Cup qualification in 4 years’ time? That is what they must resolve.
“I’ve just got to sit and wait and see if any club jobs…. if anybody approaches me between now and the end of the season, and then I’ll have a decision to make. At the moment, I don’t have a decision to make.”
Clarke hopes to get his future sorted earlier than heading off to the World Cup in June, figuring out that golf equipment who’re on the lookout for managers need to make plans for pre-season and the following marketing campaign.
“From my point of view, I’d quite like it settled,” he stated. “I’ve always wanted to go to a World Cup in my country, so I’ve now done that. The thing for me is, do the Scottish FA want to keep me to try and go further and further and get more qualifications? That’s what they have to decide.
“Like I say, in the mean time I do not actually have a option to make as a result of they have not put a suggestion in entrance of me and not one of the membership sides have put a suggestion in entrance of me both.”
