Paula Radcliffe retires from street racing after finishing Boston Marathon and securing Six Star Medal

Paula Radcliffe has introduced her retirement from street racing after claiming the Six Star Medal for finishing every of the six world marathon majors

Paula Radcliffe has introduced her retirement from street racing after claiming the Six Star Medal upon finishing the Boston Marathon.

The 51-year-old – who held the ladies’s marathon world file for 16 years from 2003 with a time of two:15:25 – completed Monday’s race within the States in a time of two hours, 53 minutes and 44 seconds.

Radcliffe, who positioned 117th out of 12,447 girls that took half, was given the Six Star Medal after finishing all six world marathon majors – Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York Metropolis.

Writing on Instagram about her retirement, she mentioned: “Wow, thank you Boston.

“My calf went at 9 miles and I could not go full out from then on, however on the plus facet the foot is nice and I bought to savour and luxuriate in these Boston Marathon crowds.

“Pain was so worth it for that Six Star Medal, especially getting from one of my biggest idols in Joanie (1984 Olympic marathon champion Joan Benoit Samuelson). And apart from the calves I feel good afterwards.

“Extra recollections accomplished and that symmetry from March 1992 WXC (Junior World Cross Nation Championships) to as we speak is full.

“That’s me signing out on the roads now! Lesson learned that my body is done with that.”

Radcliffe is a three-time winner of each the London and New York Metropolis marathons and in addition received Chicago in 2002.

She is a four-time Olympian for Nice Britain after showing throughout monitor and street occasions in 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008.
