The graceful Colonial-style home, which dates to 1920, has come on the market for the first time in … [+] decades at $5.75 million.

Hilton & Hyland

Stories of property values increasing by 5,000% over the last fifty years are not uncommon in states like California—in 1970, the statewide average home price was $24,300 and is as of early this year just under $800,000.

Nevertheless, it is still shocking to hear of price increases like that of a recently listed home in Los Angeles’ Windsor Square. The last time the property traded hands was in 1969 when it was purchased for just $60,000, or approximately 1% of today’s $5.75-million asking price.

Since then, a lot has changed—not only to the house, which has undergone renovations and updates throughout the years, but also to Windsor Square, a historic neighborhood filled with some of the most desirable homes in Los Angeles.

Built in 1920 with designs by residential architect Robert D. Jones, this stately structure features a traditional Colonial-style facade with columns, a line of dormer windows on the roof and an ornate balustrade above the front door.

Hilton & Hyland

Sitting on a nearly half-acre parcel and the quiet corner of 5th St. and Irving Blvd., the three-story residence is comprised of six bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths covering roughly 6,000 square feet.

French doors leading outside and alcoves lined with bay windows make for a bright and airy interior. The home’s distinguished character furthered by design touches like carved crown moldings, built-ins and decorative trimmings about the ceilings and walls.

The ground floor layout features a stylish kitchen with a butler’s pantry, granite countertops and Viking appliances, as well as a library, formal dining room and office space. Two sitting rooms, a breakfast nook and a living room complete the floor-plan.

A sweeping staircase leads upstairs to access the balcony and the five en-suite bedrooms, including a spacious primary suite with dual walk-in closets and a soaking tub.

The grounds feature a covered patio that takes in a graceful setting of mature trees and a … [+] sprawling, grassy yard.

Outside, a covered patio overlooks the graceful landscaping of mature trees and a sprawling, grassy yard, giving the space an open yet intimate feel. In addition, the backyard includes a large sports court, two-story guest-house and a motor court for guest parking.
