At the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) Entertainment Awards 2021, comedian and variety star Moon Se-yoon clinched the highest honor of the night—the Daesang (Grand Prize). This is his first Grand Prize, recognizing a stellar career that has culminated in a standout 2021 year. This year, he was part of the ever-popular 2 Days & 1 Night road-trip variety show, as well as Trot Magic and Godfather. The television station’s annual awards show was held in Yeouido, Seoul.
“People around me often told me that I don’t have luck when it comes to awards, but I was okay as long as I enjoyed good luck with people,” Moon shared onstage during his acceptance speech. He went on to thank his co-stars, producers and teams, and also highlighted that he was happy to receive an award in front of an audience for the first time since the pandemic began. He added, “I always had someone who encouraged and supported me whenever I was down and weary. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for them.”
The long-running 2 Days & 1 Night show, now in its fourth season, also clinched the Viewers’ Choice Best Program award. Often featuring warm interactions with strangers and a significant amount of traveling to various locations around Korea, the production team had to make modifications to the show’s format. This was to keep their cast and crew safe amid the Covid-19 situation in the country.
Three other 2 Days & 1 Night cast members picked up awards: Ravi won the Rookie Award in the variety show category, Yeon Jung-hoon won the Excellence Award for the same category, and show veteran Kim Jong-min won an Entertainer of the Year award. Kim previously took the Grand Prize in an emotional win at the 2016 awards. Capping off a convincing sweep of awards this year, one of 2 Days & 1 Night’s writers, Noh Jin-young, won the TV Writer Award.
Besides the winners from 2 Days & 1 Night, singer Jang Yoon-jeong won the Top Excellence Award in the variety/show category for her work in I Like to Sing and LAN Marketplace. Retired basketball player and TV personality Hur Jae won the Top Excellence Award in the reality show category for his work on Boss in the Mirror and Godfather—the latter show focuses on father-son relationships. Park Myung-soo took home the DJ of the Year Award.
