John Amos, who led “Good Times” as patriarch James Evans, has died … his son Kelly Christopher Amos introduced.
Per John’s son, the Emmy-nominated actor died of pure causes in Los Angeles again on Aug. 21.
He continued … “It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned. He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.”
Along with his work in “Good Times,” John was recognized for taking part in Gordy the Weatherman on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and for portraying older Kunta Kinte on “Roots” — which earned him an Emmy nomination on the twenty ninth Emmy Awards.
He additionally performed Cleo McDowell in each ‘Coming to America’ movies, alongside Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Corridor and James Earl Jones.
Followers of “The West Wing” may even acknowledge John for his recurring function as Admiral Percy Fitzwallace … appearing reverse Martin Sheen and the late John Spencer throughout its 7-season run.
