Pink Bull’s Max Verstappen is about for a 10-place grid penalty at this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix after exceeding his engine allowance.
The reigning world champion has been on the verge of a grid penalty since shedding an influence unit throughout June’s Canadian Grand Prix weekend.
Pink Bull had been pressured to introduce a fourth Honda energy unit, the utmost allowed per season.
Verstappen – who leads McLaren’s Lando Norris by 76 factors on the high of the 2024 Drivers’ Championship standings regardless of not having received any of the final three races – will now take a penalty at Spa-Francorchamps for the third straight 12 months.
He received the race from 14th in 2022 after which triumphed in 2023 after starting from P6.
Sky Sports activities’ Craig Slater mentioned: “We’ve heard nothing formally from the staff however I’ve spoken to people with a window on this example.
“It’s a significantly stiff check in the meanwhile. He sounded embattled and annoyed on the staff radio within the final race at Hungary and that’s as a result of different vehicles are the Pink Bull’s match in the meanwhile.
“A couple of years ago Max came all the way through the field from outside the top 10 and last year took a five-placed grid penalty and came through to win from sixth, but it is surely a much more difficult prospect for him this year to come in and win.
“Does he face shedding extra of that cushion he has to Norris on the high of the drivers’ standings?
“Red Bull will revert to a previous spec of car, aerodynamically at least – the set-up up at the Hungarian Grand Prix was particularly to deal with the twists and turns of that circuit.
“It’s an environment friendly automobile, the Pink Bull, at excessive pace on straight-line circuits like Spa so possibly they assume there’s nonetheless sufficient efficiency to return via the sphere.”
