In 2003, the U.S. launched a warfare in Iraq based mostly on what turned out to be dangerous intelligence about weapons applications, then spent years mired in a battle with no clear finish.

At the moment, President Trump is threatening to carry the U.S. army into one other Center East battle. As with Iraq, the justification for a possible assault on Iran is the alleged risk of a nuclear weapon.

We speak to journalist Steve Coll, creator of The Achilles Entice: Saddam Hussein, the CIA, and the Origins of America’s Invasion of Iraq about how this second echoes the run-up to the warfare in Iraq and the way it differs.
