BEIJING (Reuters) -The Philippines and China exchanged accusations of deliberately ramming coast guard vessels in disputed waters of the South China Sea on Saturday, the most recent in an escalating sequence of clashes within the very important waterway.

The collision close to the Sabina Shoal was their fifth maritime confrontation in a month in a longstanding rivalry.

Beijing claims nearly the whole South China Sea, together with elements claimed by the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Taiwan and Vietnam. Parts of the waterway, the place $3 trillion price of commerce passes yearly, are believed to be wealthy in oil and deposits, in addition to fish shares.

Tarriela mentioned Manila wouldn’t withdraw its ship “despite the harassment, the bullying activities and escalatory action of the Chinese coast guard”.

US CONDEMNS CHINESE ‘VIOLATIONS’

The U.S. ambassador to the Philippines expressed Washington’s help for the Philippines, a treaty ally.

“U.S. condemns the multiple dangerous violations of international law by the PRC (People’s Republic of China), including today’s intentional ramming,” Ambassador MaryKay Carlson mentioned on social media platform X.

The Philippines deployed a ship in April to the Sabina Shoal, 75 nautical miles from the coast of the Philippine province of Palawan. Manila accused Beijing of constructing a synthetic island, saying it had documented piles of lifeless and crushed coral on the sandbars, which Beijing denies.

This week the Philippine maritime council mentioned Chinese language plane made unsafe manoeuvres towards a civilian plane conducting patrols over two different disputed areas, the Scarborough Shoal and Subi reef.

The Philippines accused China of blocking a routine resupply mission on Sunday, saying Chinese language vessels rammed and used water cannons on a fisheries bureau ship transporting meals, gas and medical provides for Filipino fishermen.
