George Russell says he didn’t want “validation” of his talents after being outshone by Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli up to now this season forward of incomes pole place for the Canadian Grand Prix Dash.

“Perhaps if we had [the cancelled races] in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia between Miami [and Japan], and so they have been good races like we had in Melbourne and China, the dialog would not have even been there.
“This feels nice after a troublesome Miami however I by no means doubted myself. I do know what I can do. Miami is exclusive however that is an incredible circuit with excessive grip.

Wolff: Good for each drivers to struggle like this
