BTS’s ‘Love Yourself: Tear’ Reaches A Very Special Milestone On The World Chart

NCT 127 claim the No. 1 spot on this week’s World Albums chart as their new release Sticker opens in first place. The set instantly becomes their fourth leader, and it introduces some excitement to the tally, which ranks the bestselling titles proclaimed by Billboard to be “world,” which usually means foreign-language (but not Spanish). While that South Korean band may be in charge of the list, another group from that country makes history as one of their most popular releases finds a way back to the tally.

BTS’s Love Yourself: Tear returns to the World Albums chart this frame, reappearing at No. 10. The set has now been present on the ranking for 156 weeks, or exactly three years, which is a rare sight on the 15-spot list.

Love Yourself: Tear now appears to be just the second release by a South Korean act of any kind to spend three years on the World Albums chart, and the oher successful set comes from, unsurprisingly, the same band. BTS’s Love Yourself: Answer reached the impressive milestone about a month ago, and it continues going strong. This time around, that title dips slightly to No. 13 as it hits 161 frames on the tally.

BTS continue to lead the World Albums chart in terms of almost every record in the history books. The South Korean septet has now sent a dozen projects to the summit, with four others missing out on the throne. Four of the band’s releases have already racked up triple-digit weeks on the ranking, and they will surely score more, as they often occupy more spaces than any other name, as their most popular releases keep selling well. This period, they claim six spots, nearly half of all the available real estate.

Released in the spring of 2018, Love Yourself: Tear was an incredibly important album for BTS, especially in the United States. The set debuted atop the Billboard 200 in the same week it first ruled the World Albums chart, and in doing so, it became the first Korean-language full-length to top the ranking. It turned out to be one of five rulers the act has collected, at least so far. Love Yourself: Tear was supported by the single “Fake Love,” which lifted to No. 10 on the Hot 100, giving the septet their first top 10 in America.
