After teasing at a collaboration and then formally announcing their partnership a little more than a week ago, Coldplay has finally released their new single with BTS, and it sounds like the two bands might have a major hit on their hands.

As was promised, Coldplay and BTS’s “My Universe” dropped just a short time ago, and it has all the makings of what could be the latest smash single from both acts. Written by the English rockers, several members of the South Korean septet and Max Martin—one of the most successful pop hitmakers in history—the tune was created to reach the masses and stick in their minds, and it will likely do just that.

“My Universe” sees Coldplay reaching for the heights they recently refamiliarized themselves with as a featured act on The Chainsmokers’ “Something Just Like This.” The electro-pop tune was a top 10 smash all around the world, and it even earned both bands a Grammy nomination. The U.K.-based outfit’s new cut soars similarly, even going so far as to make the focus of the tune the cosmos.

Members of the band BTS largely (but not entirely) perform in their native tongue of Korean, and while longtime fans will be familiar with this, those who have only discovered them recently because of global hits like “Dynamite,” “Butter” and “Permission to Dance” may be a bit surprised.

“My Universe” already feels like the song Coldplay will feature in the encore of a future tour, as the catchiest parts seem like they might not even fit inside the largest of arenas. The single’s verses may feature some odd and even clunky songwriting choices, but when the chorus kicks in, its power and potential are undeniable.

The joint effort that is “My Universe” serves as the latest single from Coldplay’s forthcoming album Music of the Spheres, which is expected on October 15. The English pop-rock outfit started the promotional campaign surrounding their ninth proper full-length with lead single “Higher Power,” which quickly showed they are still intent on creating catchy pop smashes. The tune was a serious charting hit in their home country of the U.K., and it performed well in other territories around the world as well. Follow-up promo single “Coloratura” didn’t chart in most places, but it did further show what direction the group is headed in with this latest era.

BTS is in the middle of promoting two of their own singles, both of which topped the U.S. charts and became international smashes the moment they were released. The band’s own “Butter” is still going strong in many places, recently spurred by the release of a new remix that featured Megan Thee Stallion. As that cut was still ruling, they dropped it’s B-side, fellow single “Permission to Dance,” which also ruled the American Hot 100 for a time and which proved they can juggle several hits at once.
