Britain’s Harriet Dart has issued an apology after complaining about her opponent “smelling really bad” and requesting the umpire ask her to “put on deodorant” throughout a match in France.

Dart misplaced 6-0 6-3 to French wild card Lois Boisson within the final 32 of the Open de Rouen on Tuesday after failing to transform any of the six break factors she manufactured.

The British No 4 made her feedback about Boisson throughout a changeover within the second set, with the French participant seemingly out of earshot in the back of the court docket.

Dart later revealed her remorse at what she had stated by means of an Instagram Story, writing: “I want to apologise for what I said on the court today.

“It was a heat-of-the-moment remark I really remorse. That is not how I wish to carry myself and I take full accountability.

“I have a lot of respect for Lois and how she competed today. I’ll learn from this and move forward.”

Boisson made gentle of the incident on her personal Instagram Story, posting an edited photograph of her holding deodorant and saying that she and toiletries big Dove “need a collab”.
