Brand New K-Pop Girl Group Kep1er Debuts Their First Release At No. 1 In Korea

The musical act that claims the No. 1 spot on the albums chart in South Korea this week only released their first song in the very beginning of 2022, so it’s clear that demand for music from them was extremely high. Kep1er’s debut set, an EP titled, appropriately, First Impact, starts its time on the Gaon Albums ranking higher than ever other title, opening in first place.

The Gaon Albums chart ranks the bestselling full-lengths, EPs and single albums in South Korea every week, looking at how many copies were shipped to stores.

First Impact makes Kep1er the second leader of the new year, as this current ranking is dated as just the second of 2022. The first ruler, NCT’s Universe, falls from No. 1 to No. 4.

So far, First Impact hasn’t produced a hit on the all-encompassing Gaon Digital chart, which ranks the most-consumed tracks in the Asian country. Instead, all six songs featured on the EP find their way to the Gaon Download ranking, which lists the tunes that actually sold the most copies in the nation.

Lead First Impact single “Wa Da Da” launches at No. 21 on the Gaon Download chart, easily standing out as the most popular track from the set. “MVSK” is the only other track to find space inside the upper half of the 200-rung tally, as it starts at No. 96. Next up are “Shine (Kep1er Ver.)” (No. 118), “See The Light” (No. 128), “O.O.O (Over&Over&Over) (Kep1er Ver.)” (No. 135) and “Another Dream (Kep1er Ver.)” (No. 143).
