DUBAI (Reuters) – Iran’s international minister stated that Tehran was open to diplomacy to resolve disputes however not “threats and pressure”, state media reported on Saturday, after the U.S. and three European powers imposed sanctions in opposition to the nation’s aviation sector.
Abbas Araqchi’s feedback come a day after The European Union’s chief diplomat stated the bloc is contemplating new sanctions focusing on Iran’s aviation sector, in response to experiences Tehran provided Russia with ballistic missiles in its conflict in opposition to Ukraine.
“Iran continues on its own path with strength, although we have always been open to talks to resolve disputes … but dialogue should be based on mutual respect, not on threats and pressure,” Araqchi stated, in line with the official information company IRNA.
Araqchi stated on Wednesday that Tehran had not delivered any ballistic missiles to Russia and sanctions imposed on Iran by the US and three European powers wouldn’t remedy any issues between them.
The US, Germany, Britain and France on Tuesday imposed new sanctions on Iran, together with measures in opposition to its nationwide airline Iran Air.
