On the current edition of Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart, BTS’s single “Butter” didn’t rank as one of the 50 bestselling songs in America. Tomorrow, when the list refreshes, the tune will reappear at No. 1, and in doing so, it will match perhaps the most important record there is when it comes to the purchase-focused tally.

“Butter” is slated to return to the Digital Song Sales chart’s summit in a day or so, as it ranks as the bestselling track in the U.S. in the previous tracking frame. The smash will earn its eighteenth turn on the throne, which is as impressive a run as it sounds. With 18 frames atop the purchase-only list, “Butter” will officially tie with one other tune as the title with the most weeks spent at No. 1 in the history of the ranking.

For just the next few hours, BTS’s own “Dynamite” continues to hold as the single with the most weeks at No. 1 in the history of the Digital Song Sales chart. That summer cut also managed 18 turns in the spotlight between 2020 and 2021. Now, as “Butter” surges in popularity, the South Korean band ties their own impressive record, and they will insects lay claim the two longest-running leaders of all time.

“Butter” gains so significantly thanks to the release of a new remix of the single. BTS shared the Holiday reworking of the smash on December 3, and fans across the U.S. rushed to buy the latest version of the chart-topper. According to MRC Data, “Butter” (all versions) sold a collective 26,500 copies in the last tracking frame.

BTS has now dropped five remixes of “Butter” in addition to the original, and with Billboard lumping them all into one charting entity, it’s easy to understand how the tune has been able to sell as well as it has for so long. Since the band shared the first take on the future Song of the Summer in mid-May, the septet has delivered new tracks labeled the Hotter, Cooler and Sweeter remixes. They also refreshed the cut with new lyrics by rapper Megan Thee Stallion back in late August.

“Butter” became BTS’s fourth Hot 100 No. 1 when it debuted in first place. The track went on to become the tune with the most weeks spent atop the all-genre ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S., as it spent 10 nonconsecutive turns in the chart’s penthouse, with sales contributing largely to its incredible success.

With an eighteenth week at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart, “Butter” breaks out of a tie with Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber’s “Despacito,” which managed 17 stints in first place during its heyday. that title holds as the tune with the second-most frames atop the tally.
