South Korean boy band Stray Kids returns to the No. 1 spot on the Gaon Albums chart in their home country this week, finding their way back to the summit for the second time in 2021.
The boy group debuts their new single album Christmas EveL atop the ranking of the bestselling albums in the Asian nation. The seasonal title only features four songs, including the lead single, “Christmas EveL.” The short set reportedly sold over 650,000 copies in the month of November alone. That’s a huge sum, considering the project was only released on the 29th.
Christmas EveL marks Stary Kids’ sixth trip to the summit on the Gaon Albums chart, and they have managed that sum with a handful of different kinds of releases. Both of their full-lengths (Go Live and Noeasy) have hit No. 1, as has their sole reissued album In Life. Two EPs (Clé 1: Miroh and Clé: Levanter) have also risen to the peak position.
Looking at their entire discography, Stray Kids have now appeared inside the top 10 on the weekly Gaon Albums chart with 11 different projects, including two this year alone. Back at the end of summer, Noeasy wasted no time heading right for the top of the tally.
Two of the four songs featured on Christmas EveL were released as singles, and both have become smashes on the Gaon Download chart, which ranks the bestselling individual tunes in South Korea. The title track opens at No. 3, while fellow promotional cut “Winter Falls” ranks at No. 7. The other tracks on the set also find space on the ranking, but they are much closer to the bottom.
