Cowboy Bebop headlines November’s new Netflix titles.

Credit: Netflix

It’s hard to believe that October is almost over and November is nearly upon us. Just one more day until Halloween, and just two more months until we can bid adieu to 2021—and good riddance!

November is a very good month for Netflix subscribers, with lots and lots of original content and plenty of classic movies and TV to keep you entertained as the days grow shorter and colder. Winter is coming, dear readers. Time to Netflix and chill.

The 1st of the month is always the day we get the most movie drops, with lots of non-Netflix films both new and old, to revisit or watch for the first time.

Some fun ones that I haven’t seen in ages include Keanu Reeves’s pre-Matrix sci-fi flick Johnny Mnemonic and the Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie The Last Action Hero, neither of which I’ve watched since the 90s’. That also applies to the Arthurian romance First Knight starring Richard Gere as Lancelot, Sean Connery as King Arthur and Julia Ormond as Gwuinevere.

Just a little late for Halloween we also have Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula, starring a fresh-faced Keanu Reeves with a very, very terrible British accent, Winona Ryder with only a slightly better one, and the finest actor of our times, Gary Oldman, as the vampiric Count himself. Never have I ever seen a movie with such unbalanced acting chops (and I say this as a huge Keanu fan, but the poor guy was just way out of his depth here). We actually watched part of this the other night and it really didn’t age well, but I’m going to push through to the second half which is much better (if I recall correctly).

Ridley Scott’s American Gangster, starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, also lands on the 1st. I haven’t seen this crime drama since it came out but I remember liking it. And one of my favorite movies of all time, A River Runs Through It (starring a very young Brad Pitt) also comes to Netflix on the 1st. This was filmed in my hometown of Bozeman when I was in 6th grade. My P.E. teacher was an extra in it at the time. I had no idea who Brad Pitt even was—nor did much of the world back then, though not for long.

New Netflix Originals

Some new and returning Netflix Originals come to the streaming giant in November. Here are a few to keep an eye on—both movies and TV shows, some of which I’m pretty stoked about.

Big Mouth Season 5 (Nov. 5th)

MORE FOR YOU

I admit, I kind of burnt out on Big Mouth in Season 4. It felt a little preachy in ways it hadn’t before and I stopped watching. I’ll probably dive back in when I’m looking for something funny and very, very potty-mouthed. The raunchy show about kids transitioning from child to horny pre-teens is definitely not for everyone. But the Hormone Monster(s) is a hilarious idea and when the show shines it’s very funny.

Arcane (Nov. 6th)

I’ve started watching this show (I have screeners) and will have a review soon. It’s based on the video game League Of Legends which I don’t really care for (MOBAs just aren’t my cup of tea). But LoL is a huge game with tons of players and a massive eSports scene that fills auditoriums. Fans love to watch the pros compete. I just don’t get it but whatever. Arcane has a really cool art-style and animation and I’m excited about it despite not being a fan of the game.

Red Notice (Nov. 11th)

One FBI agent (The Rock) and two rival criminals (Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds) and one big heist. That is a movie and a cast I can get behind. This looks like a good time and as far as I can recall I’ve never seen Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds in a movie together before. It’ll be nice to see Gadot in a role that isn’t Wonder Woman also, especially after the total disaster that was Wonder Woman 84.

Tiger King 2 (Nov. 17th)

I am one of maybe ten Americans that wasn’t pulled in by Tiger King when it came out during the pandemic and frankly, I couldn’t care less about the sequel documentary. It was mildly entertaining but just not enough to grab me. Go figure. But I do know lots of Netflix subscribers loved it, or at least found themselves hooked, so a second season is good new.

Cowboy Bebop (Nov. 19th)

There’s been a little controversy surrounding the live-action remake of Cowboy Bebop, one of the most famous and beloved anime series ever made. Some of this was over the costume of Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) which looks nothing like the anime costume (which is much skimpier). This has led people to worry that other big changes were being made. We shall see. John Cho plays Spike and Mustafa Shakir plays Jet in this space-faring bounty hunter adventure. I’m watching/reviewing this one also.

Okay, now on to the Big List. Here’s everything coming to Netflix in November, 2021. What are you looking forward to? Let me know on Twitter or Facebook.
