This past Friday (August 27), BTS re-released their smash single “Butter,” only now it is no longer a solo cut. The latest remix of the track features Megan Thee Stallion, and her inclusion is sure to help the tune rocket back up the Billboard charts, perhaps ensuring it returns to the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 in a few days. The collaborative single will surely become a big win for them on various rankings all around the world, and it may also help the group earn some much-deserved love at the Grammys before the year is up.

The “Butter” remix with Stallion on board arrives in time to be considered for the upcoming Grammys, and it might be what the band needs to earn at least one, if not several nods. The nine-week No. 1 hit is surely in the running for inclusion in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance vertical, where they were nominated last year for their first Hot 100 chart-topper “Dynamite,” but now it seems like an even better choice for one of the eight slots in the Record of the Year category.

“Butter” was likely already in contention for the top prize, but it may have been something of a hard sell for some voters. Recording Academy members are notorious for not taking boy bands seriously, and very few have gone on to win Grammys. BTS’s summery smash had a shot at a nod before Stallion joined them in the fun, as it’s both the bestselling track in the U.S. this year and the longest-running No. 1, but her involvement will make it even bigger. The Grammys aren’t all about numbers, but the larger a tune becomes, the harder it is to avoid when it comes time to nominate…at least usually.

BTS could have reached out to pretty much anyone and asked them to work on the “Butter” remix, but choosing Stallion was a smart move for a number of reasons, especially when it comes to the Grammys. The Recording Academy loves the rapper, which is evidenced by the fact that she was up for four trophies at the 2021 ceremony, winning three. The only category the powerhouse didn’t come out on top in was Record of the Year, which she was largely predicted to claim. Stallion and Beyoncé’s “Savage” was chosen by many fans and journalists to win, but Billie Eilish’s “Everything I Wanted” came out of nowhere to give the teen sensation her second consecutive prize. Some voters may feel Stallion was snubbed, and they may be looking for another reason to reward her.

Nominations for the 2022 Grammys probably won’t be announced until December, but there is only about one month left in the eligibility period. At present, there don’t seem to be too many titles that are predicted by a large number of people in the music industry to almost certainly receive nods, which is good news for BTS. Now with one of the hottest and most beloved female musicians featured on the most successful song of the year in many regards, the chances that “Butter” will be up for several awards seem to be growing, and the South Korean septet could be sliding toward making history in a few months.
