Champion jockey Sean Bowen is a sizzling favorite to win a second Nationwide Hunt title and hopes youthful brother James could make it a household one-two this season.

Bowen has stormed clear on the prime of the leap jockeys’ championship, with 98 winners earlier than racing on Wednesday – 55 forward of James in second.

“James is having a great season and is currently second behind me in the championship,” stated Bowen, who was topped champion for the primary time in April after an premature harm derailed his cost for the title the earlier season.

“Hopefully, we can keep it like that all season.”

The 28-year-old from Pembrokeshire reached 1,000 winners in February and says he has been blown away by how older brother Mickey has taken over the reins from father Peter on the household’s coaching operation.

Bowen senior handed his licence all the way down to Mickey in Might after having fun with 1,105 winners over jumps and successful effectively over £10m in complete prize-money.

Mickey has had 40 winners and leads the trainers’ championship in its early phases with prize-money of £388,678.

“I can’t quite believe how well Mickey has started,” stated Sean. “He is been unimaginable.

“I think he has trained almost as many winners already this season as they had last season.

“Issues simply hold going from power to power and he is doing an excellent job.

“He has clearly learnt so much from dad through the years and I do know dad remains to be serving to him a lot.

“He has also been to Willie Mullins’ operation to learn there and that hasn’t gone amiss.”

Bowen is relishing the chance to be on house floor in Wales this weekend with Chepstow internet hosting a brand new three-day leap racing pageant.

The Dragonbet Welsh Racing Pageant will run Friday to Sunday with 10,000 racegoers anticipated on the Monmouthshire course.

“We need to promote Welsh racing all we can, because we’ve got some brilliant trainers and brilliant jockeys and obviously some big owners now as well,” stated Sean.

“Welsh racing is thriving at the minute and this big festival meeting at Chepstow is where all the stars will start their season, so it is quite exciting.

“I do know Chepstow have accomplished a superb job selling all of it and some homeowners are telling me concerning the good offers they’ve accomplished with motels and buses and various things.

“Even though Chepstow is in Wales, it is quite close to a lot of the jumps trainers over the border.

“So it isn’t far for them to go and a three-day pageant is sensible.”
