Far-Flung Postcards is a weekly collection through which NPR’s worldwide staff shares moments from their lives and work around the globe.
I used to be taking my 12-year-old daughter on her first-ever journey abroad, to Antigua, Guatemala. Worldwide journey at all times brings a brand new perspective, and that was very true as I used to be seeing a distinct nation by means of her extensive, awe-filled eyes.
Whereas visiting a museum of Indigenous textiles in a city a couple of miles outdoors town, I noticed this beautiful hanging planter within the form of a chicken. As I received nearer, I spotted it was made completely out of an previous tire. It is an ingenious instance of reusing trash to make one thing lovely. And it is a reminder that tradition is all over the place for those who let your eye linger.
